The landscape around Silkeborg

The magnificent nature around Silkeborg inspires to lots of adventures, for example a walk in the woods, a cycle ride, a tour with the oldest steamer in the world – Hjejlen (the golden plover), a canoe trip on the River Gudenå or a relaxed picnic to one of the many lakes. The combination of forest and an ingenious system of lakes, rivers and streams in a hilly scenery makes the area special and unique.

The biggest forest in Denmark
The forest south of Silkeborg is the biggest in Denmark with 85 square kilometres. Furthermore, 41 additional square kilometres at Silkeborg make the area around Silkeborg impressive and quite unique in Denmark.

Himmelbjerget
One of the natural heights is of course Himmelbjerget – the hill that rises in the scenery and is visible from far away from sea as well as land. You can get there by car, by bicycle or on foot but you can also get there with the old steamboat from 1861 – Hjejlen.

A natural buffet
The scenery is very varied and offers small and big adventures. Every hill, bay or creek reveals new areas and sceneries, which are at everybody’s disposal. The natural buffet is open to anglers, hikers, joggers, cyclists, ornithologists, people on picnic and all other nature-lovers.
