We recommend: The lake, Almindsø One of the cleanest lakes in Denmark with two beaches, Eastern and Western bath. In the summer, you will find changing facilities, a shop and lifeguards.
The spring, Arnakkekilden This ”curative” spring takes its rise at Art Centre Silkeborg Bad, which is a former spa facility. Today, the spring yields water to the Carlsberg Breweries and the old spa facility now houses an art centre.
The lake, Aunsø The lake is also called the ”glasses” due to its peculiar form. It is an incredibly beautiful and peaceful spot, which can be reached by canoe or through the woods.
The hills of Gjern Bakker A lateral moraine from the Ice Age with many points, from which there are views, e.g. Troldhøj (the hill of trolls). The story goes that trolls lived there, and that is how it got its name.
| Himmelbjerget With its 147 meters Himmelbjerget is one of the highest points in Denmark. There is a spectacular view over the lake, Julsø, and the surrounding woods and nature areas, which today is the largest woodland area in Denmark.
Pramdragerstien (the ”bargeman path”) The travelling road, which colloquially is called ”Trækstien” (the ”towpath”), is 23 km from Kongensbro to Silkeborg. Barges with materials were towed to and from Silkeborg town and the paper mill by animals and humans.
Sindbjerg and Stoubjerg Beautiful, heathery knolls designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty in a moorland area near Silkeborg. There is a unique view over the area and its lake systems from both hills, which are 103 and 99 meters high.
The lake, Slåensø A very clean and clear lake, where you may see the fish swimming beneath the surface. The lake is surrounded by steep slopes with some of highest Douglas firs in Denmark and with many places from which you will have a good view.
Vrads Sande A large moorland area, which is known for Kristoffer Løvstad’s establishment of gardens with rockeries and underground passages. There are plenty of other opportunities. Ask at Silkeborg Tourist Office, where you may find further information. Relevant link: www.himmelbjerget.dk |
